EIGHTEEN

Isaak seemed lost, and Rapunzel's heart could not help but ache for him. At least her father still lived, while his had died without even leaving a body behind so that he might be mourned.

She offered him her hand, and he took it, allowing her to guide him upstairs to her bedchamber, where she pushed him down on the bed, telling him to rest. Only when she started pulling off his boots, he began pulling other things off, too, and then so had she, and then he'd pulled her down onto the bed beside him, and...

Oh God, he felt so good inside her. Hot and hard and so delicious she could not help but moan and beg for more.

She lost count of the number of times she screamed his name, as his gloved hands held fast to her hips, driving ever deeper inside her, grinding against her, until she thought she could bear no more pleasure, and he found his own shuddering release.

She drowsed in his arms as he drifted off into sleep, and, she hoped, dreams that would be far pleasanter than the events she'd shown him in the mirror.

But even as she ached, both for the lovemaking they'd done and her need for more, her thoughts went back to Abraham's final moments. The coins coming out of the fog. There'd been magic at work there, she was certain of it, and if she could understand how it worked, then maybe she could figure out how to break the curse that bound Isaak. So that he might take off his gloves and caress her with his bare hands, and do all manner of pleasurable things that she'd seen him do in the mirror. Joys other girls had known, before the curse had stolen touch from him. And her.

And there it was, wasn't it? She would save him – would move heaven and earth to do it – because whoever had cursed his family had no right to curse her as well. If Kun had taught her one thing in all the years they'd lived together in this tower, it was that those in power were no match for a witch who could shape the future.

Her own parents had traded her away so that they might live with the person they loved. Was it so wrong if she wanted to use her powers to save someone so that she might have love in her life, too? She'd be saving his life, after all.

Having made up her mind, Rapunzel slid out of bed, pulling on some clothes to protect her from the cold, and headed back to Kun's room to ask the mirror for more.
